Press Releases:

12/07/2003 - MaintSmart version 2.3 has been released

MaintSmart version 2.3 (maintenance management software) has been released. MaintSmart is noted as being the only CMMS available that uses reliability analysis to guide the user towards optimized preventive maintenance task lists. Adjusting PM task lists based upon MTBF (average time between failures) for particular failure causes is a two mouse-click process that takes seconds and provides results based upon real data. Additionally MaintSmart uses military standard reliability analysis methods (AMSAA) to help the user determine if their maintenance efforts are improving reliability and guide the user towards continuous improvement.

MaintSmart provides a simple yet very powerful interface for work orders, purchasing, inventory, skills, failure data collection and much more. MaintSmart handles PMs as a separate function or as a work order, per se. MaintSmart analyzes work orders, PMs, equipment failure, skills, inventory, parts usage and purchasing then reports in three different ways: Excel, Crystal Reports 8.5 or data grid printing. Data grids may be saved in Excel, HTML (web Page) or as simple text.

Another distinctive MaintSmart feature is the way MaintSmart implements meters. Meters may contain up to six different measurements each (for example: change oil every 6 months or 6000 miles would be two measurements) and may be updated manually or linked to DDE or OPC compliant server software. This feature enables the system to automatically create work orders based upon running conditions within an equipment item (reads PLC address data). Meters could also be linked to MaintSmart from an Excel spreadsheet if needed.

This version upgrade focuses on increased flexibility. By providing four equipment hierarchies and an equipment tree view MaintSmart makes it simple to locate, report on and correct problems. Equipment name, task and failure cause description fields have been lengthened to 255 characters each. Details may be added to task records up to 2 GB per record if needed.

MaintSmart CMMS is widely used both in the USA and internationally as a network Windows application. MaintSmart is currently benefiting manufacturing plants, oil fields, electrical utilities, public works, United States military, major universities, the hospitality industry and is appropriate just about anywhere equipment is maintained.

No other programs are needed to run MaintSmart, as it is fully self-contained. There are no extra modules to buy or subscriptions to pay for. Unlimited email support for life is free with extended support available. MaintSmart 2.3 is Windows application that uses an Access database backend. Access is not required nor does MaintSmart conflict with any dissimilar version of Access. MaintSmart 4.0 Enterprise is a SQL Server 2000 version and is scheduled for release in late January 2004.

A fully functional demo (36.9 MB) is available: http://www.maintsmart.com/MaintSmart_Demo.exe (or call/email for CD). Visit our information rich no frills web site http://www.maintsmart.com for answers and detailed information on this remarkable software.

Preserve Fixed Assets Through Equipment Maintenance Management

Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) applications are big money savers for many businesses. Manufacturing, hospitals, utilities, even motor vehicle fleets are finding that with proper maintenance expensive equipment will last much longer with less unplanned down time.

While there are several CMMS applications on the market today, most seem to be lacking in one or more areas. Daniel Cook, Senior Software Engineer for DCE Software Solutions, worked in plant maintenance for nearly 20 years for the second largest commercial baking company in the United States. During this time he used several of the leading CMMS applications, including one that cost over one million dollars. Most of them are database front-ends that simply store records. MaintSmart, DCE's flagship program, does much more.

MaintSmart considers all facets of an equipment maintenance operation. These include: work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, equipment failure analysis, inventory control, purchasing manufacturing and engineering labor expenses, and equipment reliability analysis. These topics, integral to any equipment management operation, are then evaluated either on their own or integrated in such a way as to present the user with a picture of the overall cost to own each piece of equipment. This in turn focuses the user's attention on how and where resources should be applied or withdrawn to further the efficiency of the maintenance operation. Further the reliability analysis section guides the user in addressing tasks to be performed in order to avoid costly machine failures. The AMSAA military standard is used for reliability analysis.

The user interface is consistent throughout and an extensive help system makes it easy for the user to maintain current data. Shortcuts abound; including drag and drop and the ability to copy common records, such as inventory lists, in bulk to other plants in the organization. Additional labor is not necessary to enter the data. MaintSmart is completely flexible to any operation that maintains any type of equipment. The user defines equipment, tasks, breakdown causes and places them into up to 999 separate plants (or entities). Application level security is implemented in such a way as to provide the system administrator with tight control of the various functions available. This makes it possible for users throughout the company to take advantage of this powerful system .

MaintSmart is an automation controller for MS Excel. Though Excel is not required it does enhance MaintSmart by accepting data directly from the program with almost no effort. SQL Server and web-enabled versions of MaintSmart are in development.

The introductory price for this powerful application starts at $795.00 for a single user. This is far below the competition's price and MaintSmart contains many more features. Five licenses may be purchased for $1595.00. Additional price breaks are available. A fully functional demo program is available at http://www.maintsmart.com

MaintSmart Program Upgrade: Scheduling Module

DCE Software Solutions announces ongoing development of a work-scheduling module. This module will be included with MaintSmart 1.5. Work orders and PMs may be graphically scheduled by mouse point/click and drag. Past PM schedules are automatically loaded into their prospective time positions based upon day of week. These time positions may be moved advanced or retarded in 1 hour increments to facilitate equipment down time scheduling differences if needed.

The schedule allows for user-defined time segments. For example you may view the schedule in increments of 6 minutes to 60 minutes as needed. After schedules are graphically entered (PMs may be auto-loaded with almost no effort) the schedule(s) are written to the database and may be printed, etc. The schedule may be "compressed" to allow you to see the entire schedule without scrolling the screen with one mouse-click.You are notified if an employee is scheduled to work outside of his regular user-defined work hours.

Other upgrades in progress:

  • SQL Server/Oracle version
  • MaintSmart, Spanish language version
  • Bar-coding capability
This upgrade is scheduled for release in January of 2002.
